Argos Customer Service
Blogged by James Preece on 26th June 2010
Not so very long ago in the bottom right hand corner of Yorkshire there was a wife in need of a hoover and a tight northern husband hoping to save money.
So he bought the cheapest vacuum cleaner that Argos sell and it worked... for a bit.
So his wife rang the helpline and they suggested she wash the filter in warm water and try again which she did and it worked... for a bit.
Then her tight but technical husband decided he could fix the vacuum cleaner so he opened it up with his new screwdrivers that he got for fathers day (the screwdrivers were probably more expensive than the vacuum cleaner) and looked inside.
It had got too warm and two rubber parts had melted meaning that the air couldn't flow through properly. So the husband rang the helpline number and explained to the man that he had opened up his vacuum cleaner to find melted parts and he was wondering if they could send him some replacement ones.
I'm sorry, said the man, but we don't supply individual parts. There is something you can try though...
Take out the filter and wash it in warm water...

Bummer. I thought that was going to be a customer service good news story. I thought Argos were pretty good on the whole.
But there is no customer service to beat John Lewis in my opinion. I buy everything I can from there. I'd put money on it that They'd be sending you replacement parts or a new hoover by now.
The very worst, the most dismal and appalling customer service has to be that of Dixons/Currys. Just dreadful, they don't care a hoot once they have your money ( although they can't do enough for you when they are trying to sell you one of their ridiculously pricey bolt on extended warranties.
And I have that, not just from personal experience, but from a friend who used to work in their customer service department.
I wouldn't buy a set of batteries from them now.
I still think Marks and Spencer is very good, but of course they don't sell hoovers!
Oh and by the way, I rate the Henry. No bells and whistles, sturdily built and nothing fancy and electronic to go wrong.
they can take a lot of abuse too which is why builders love them.

I rate Henry too - you don't need any bags for them - and they are quite powerful.

Could you take out the helpline and wash them in warm water?

I've got a blue Henry - he smiles me as he follows around corners - not that he gets a huge amount of opportunities:)
