I am a Catholic Dad living in Kingston Upon Hull in Yorkshire.
I like fun stuff like juggling, drawing, unicycling, toy trains, building blocks and video games. I like interesting stuff like history, theology, science and computers.
I find that all of these things have something to do with God.

O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our most gentle Queen and Mother, look down in mercy upon England thy "Dowry" and upon us all who greatly hope and trust in thee.
By thee it was that Jesus our Saviour and our hope was given unto the world; and He has given thee to us that we might hope still more.
Plead for us thy children, whom thou didst receive and accept at the foot of the cross.
O sorrowful Mother! intercede for our separated brethren, that with us in the one true fold they may be united to the supreme Shepherd, the Vicar of thy Son.
Pray for us all, dear Mother, that by faith fruitful in good works we may all deserve to see and praise God, together with thee, in our heavenly home.
Amen.
O God, our heavenly Father, protect and bless us. Deepen and strengthen our love for each other day by day.
Grant that by thy mercy, neither of us may ever say one unkind word to the other. Forgive and correct our faults, and make us constantly to forgive one another should one of us unconsciously hurt the other.
Make us and keep us sound and well in body, alert in mind, tender in heart, and devout in spirit. O Lord, grant us each to rise to the other's best. Then, we pray thee, add to our common life such virtues as only thou canst give.
And so, O Father, consecrate our life and love completely to thy worship, and to the service of all about us, especially those whom thou hast appointed us to serve, that we may always stand before thee in happiness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

There is another way of looking at this. EMs are properly authorised and instituted according to the rules of the Church to assist in distributing holy communion (which makes "extra-ordinary" a misnomer), especially where, as at the cathedral, there are large numbers and the distribution would take an inordinate length of time (the chalice is not usually given there). For people to insist on receiving communion from a priest, ignoring the EMs, is an insult to the EMs who are giving themselves to this service on behalf of the Church and its people. It is also an insult to God, because they are rejecting God's offer to them of communion by insisting that they have to receive it from somebody else. It is the same sacrament whether given by a priest or a layperson. The identity of the giver is irrelevant. If people really believe that it is the body of Christ they would be grateful that anyone at all was willing to offer it to them and not imagine they are special and that communion from a priest is more "holy" than from a layperson.
I knew a priest who would simply walk away when people insisted on receiving from him and not from the EMs. Good for him! People should know how bad-mannered they are being.

When there are truly large numbers of the faithful, and communion would be *unduly* prolonged - fair enough. But what usually happens in the UK, in my experience, is that a parish with at most a couple of hundred people at Sunday Mass copes fine without any EMHCs, and then suddenly they're at every Mass - occasionally there are more than half as many EMHC as there are other lay people present. Not infrequently the priest takes a seat while the EMHCs do the work (I've seen this once where the priest was clearly very frail, which was fair enough, but the other times it was either inexplicable or ideological.)
Priests mostly know fine well what they are doing on this front, and blank you out if you say anything. So there's only voting with one's feet left.
