Rumours of Rumours
Blogged by James Preece on 18th September 2012
A few people have been in touch now to say that a friend told them that a priest they know knows a priest who knows somebody who told them that they heard.... well, you get the idea. I have little actual evidence that this is true, but it's doing the rounds.
Anyway... the word on the street is that the Bishop's next meeting will be in November and one of the topics on the agenda is whether to restore the Holy Days of Obligation to their proper days. "People" are saying now might be a good time to write to your Bishop and let him know how you feel about it...
Like I said, I don't know if it's true, but this is the sort of thing you can pray about whether it's true or not.

since the Bishops are so keen for us to be SEEN and HEARD as faithful practising Catholics [see below] then what better way than to restore the Holy Days of Obligation where that visible act of faith can be seen other than a Sunday?
"Catholics in England and Wales are being invited to pause for a moment of prayer every first Friday of the month as an act of faith and public witness.
The invitation has been made by Rt Rev Kieran Conry, Bishop of Arundel and Brighton and Chair of the Bishops’ Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis. Speaking ahead of Home Mission Sunday, which falls on 16 September 2012, he said: "On Home Mission Sunday we reflect on our role in the mission of the Church. A simple way that we can contribute to this and grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ, is to pray publicly during the day.
"I would like to invite every Catholic, especially during the Year of Faith, to pause for a moment of prayer of praise and thanksgiving at 3pm if possible, or perhaps when you break for lunch, on the first Friday of every month. Whatever you are doing, as your responsibilities allow, stop, perhaps close your eyes, bow your head and prayerfully and silently meditate on the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross out of love for you and everyone. You might even want to set your mobile phone to ring at 2.55pm to remind you to pause for prayer."

As the start of the Year of Faith approaches, the Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster called on the congregation at the Preston Guild Mass on Saturday 1 September "to be more confidently Catholic in all we do".

Not a rumour. Also not totally true. They are considering restoring *certain* feast days, namely Epiphany and Ascension. I think this is so as to avoid confusion as to when the Easter and Christmas seasons end, but I'm not sure on that part.
(And, yes, I know Christmas ends with the Baptism of the Lord. But, anyway...)
