Michelle's BBQ
Blogged by James Preece 2 Years ago...

The Infamous floods of old Hull Town delayed the barbecue season... but we're making up for it. Last week we went to Frances' BBQ, today was Michelle's.
Michelle has had a rough time of it lately, what with her house flooding and all. Not only that, but she had to endure a Digital Homily this weekend. You might think with all that her BBQ might suffer. Well, let me tell you, Michelle does a cracking good BBQ complete with cheesy Doritos (mmm), Cherry Tomatoes (where did they go so fast?) and Meat.
Did I mention there was meat?
Fr. Massie displayed classic priestly cheek by suggesting Michelle offer coffee and then being the only person to want it and then to let her go to all the bother of brewing proper coffee. Then, he said "is there anything for desert?" shortly followed by "that raspberry pavlova looks nice" indicating he knew full well there was desert when he asked.
Then, when Michelle asked if anybody needed anything he said "Yes, a Phillips screwdriver". After the high-tech shenanigans of this morning he had to ask Ella's sister for help changing a light bulb in his car.
A great time was, as they say, had by all.
He's bought himself an Ice Cream!

a.k.a. my first Father's Day

I've never been a father on Father's Day before. I awoke this morning early (well, no earlier than on a workday morning but on a Sunday that's very early) for to go and finish cutting the hedge down at St. Joseph's. I went downstairs to make Ella and I cups of tea (you might think Ella might offer to make the tea on Fathers Day) and when I returned to the bedroom found Leona had left me a card with a wonderful inscription:
To Daddy,
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
I have great fun
When I'm with youHAPPY FATHERS DAY
lots of love

Baby Giraffe Loves Her Daddy
That was nice, she also got me three sets of seeds for a Scary Ghost Plant (it eats flies), a Sensitive Plant (it responds to touch) and a Peanut Plant (it grows peanuts). I don't know what the plants are like because I haven't grown them yet!
Ella was kind enough to make me a balloon hat (see above) it's a giraffe in the jungle.
I cut the hedge at St. Joseph's and then we went to mass. This week this years batch of children made their first communion. It was good to see Mrs Hansen who taught me at primary school still in action and the kids seemed to take it seriously (except two very grumpy boys who took it morosely).
In the afternoon we convinced Michelle to take us to Beverley for the folk festival. It being Sunday afternoon we only just caught the end of the last dance which consisted of a rather pagan looking morris side. This was not ideal for Michelle's first taste of folk dancing as she took the pagan/occult stuff very seriously and started (not so discreetly) sprinkling holy water about the place. Cue huge discussion about the occult and how seriously it is to be taken.
After that we had ice cream and Leona did not (see above).
In the evening we headed over to Ella's parent's for a meal and to drink the port that Ella's dad got for Father's Day.
